South Tangerang — The "Renjana Buana" Student Nature Enthusiast Group (MPA) from the Nahdlatul Ulama University of Indonesia (Unusia) held an introductory session on the basic theory of whitewater rafting at Setu 7 Muara, Pamulang District, South Tangerang City (October 11). This activity served as foundational training for members, covering basic rafting techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures in preparation for more advanced training.
For this session, MPA Renjana Buana invited M. Siswanto—affectionately known as "Meter"—from the "Archa Buana" student nature enthusiast group at Pamulang University to serve as the instructor. Participants received guidance on water current characteristics, rafting gear, fundamental paddling techniques, and the standard commands used while rafting.
The curriculum also covered the use of safety equipment, such as helmets and life jackets, as well as the critical importance of communication and coordination among participants. Understanding instructions from guides, assessing water conditions, and identifying potential hazards were key components of the training, ensuring participants could recognize risks before engaging in water-based activities.
Following the theory session, participants engaged in hands-on practice at Setu 7 Muara to apply what they had learned. This practical segment allowed them to test basic techniques while honing team coordination and communication by following the instructor’s directions.
Whitewater rafting is an outdoor activity that demands physical and mental readiness, discipline, and teamwork. Consequently, a solid grasp of techniques and safety protocols is essential for members as they continue to develop their skills through future training.
Through this initiative, Unusia’s MPA Renjana Buana aims to enhance the knowledge and outdoor expertise of its members, specifically in the field of whitewater rafting. By combining theory with practical application, the group hopes to foster a strong sense of safety awareness, personal responsibility, and environmental stewardship in all outdoor pursuits.
