Jakarta – A leadership transition is more than just a change of office; it is a moment to continue ongoing efforts, uphold established values, and embark on a new path toward the future. This spirit defined the handover ceremony for the Rector of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Indonesia (Unusia), held at the Jakoeb Oetama Hall on the 4th floor this Wednesday (August 5). The event marked the farewell of the Acting Rector, Dr. Syahrizal Syarief, MPH, Ph.D., and the welcoming of the new Rector, Dr. Fariz Alnizar, who will carry on the university's leadership.

In his remarks, Syahrizal Syarief began by congratulating Fariz Alnizar on assuming the role of Unusia Rector. He also expressed his gratitude to the vice-rectors, deans, vice-deans, and all administrative staff who supported him during his tenure as Acting Rector. He noted that building Unusia involves not only systems and bureaucracy but also interpersonal relationships grounded in friendship and a spirit of togetherness.

"Building Unusia is not a one-person job; it is a collective effort. No matter how small our role, let us give our best contribution to Unusia. I am confident that Unusia will become a great university," said Syahrizal.

He also emphasized that he would continue to take an interest in Unusia’s progress, even though he is no longer serving as Acting Rector. He stated that the ambitious vision initiated by the founders must be carried forward through the contributions of the entire academic community.

Reflections and messages were also shared by Sri Dina Pohan, representing the university's administration and academic community. She commended Syahrizal Syarief for his dedication during his time as Acting Rector and urged the entire academic community to continue strengthening collaboration in building Unusia. A warm atmosphere pervaded the event as Amtsar A. Dulmanan recited poems to honor the leadership transition at Unusia.

In his inaugural address as Rector of Unusia, Fariz Alnizar urged the entire academic community to believe in the university's immense potential for growth. He emphasized that Unusia should not view itself as small or limit its thinking; opportunities abound, and there are many potential collaborators who can help propel the university to new heights.

"We must not feel small, for Unusia is actually viewed as a significant institution from the outside. Let us not think in insular terms. There are many hands ready to help and many paths to our growth. Every contribution, no matter how small, plays a vital role in Unusia's progress," Fariz stated.

Embodying the spirit of Acceleration, Collaboration, and Transformation, Fariz affirmed his commitment to optimizing organizational governance, boosting research productivity, accelerating the achievement of "Superior" accreditation, and developing a curriculum aligned with the university's vision through a community development approach. He also called upon the entire academic community to perform their duties and functions optimally as part of the collective effort to elevate Unusia.

Through this transition event, Unusia reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the leadership legacy with a spirit of togetherness, innovation, and service. Fariz Alnizar’s leadership is expected to accelerate Unusia’s journey toward becoming an excellent higher education institution—grounded in the *Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah An-Nahdliyah* ethos—that makes a tangible contribution to the nation and society.
